president obama and former presidents bush and clinton head to south africa next week for services honoring that country's first black president. this weekend south africans are celebrating his life with songs and marches. mourners say mandel's leadership transform their country, including his 27 years in jail, protesting against apartheid. >> growing up, we weren't allowed -- it's just always been to me that rebellious person who fought for us. >> tomorrow is the national day of prayer in south africa. on tuesday, president obama will attend the official public memorial service in johannesburg. mandela will be buried on december 15th in the village of qunu where he grew up. >>> the remaining pilot whales that stranded on the coast of florida may have rescued themselves. on tuesday 51 whales were spotted either beach order in shallow water near the florida everglades. several whales died on the beach and others were euthanized, but most of the whales apparently swam up, making it to deeper water and safety. biologists say they don't know what caused the whales to come ashore. >>> about 60

which led to his detention just as he was about to leave the country. his release coincides with a visit by the u.s. vice president joe biden. he'd actually been in south korea and apparently there had been direct contact between the obama administration and pyongyang. as a result of that, the obama administration got a call saturday morning saying, without explanation, he was being released, and he suddenly appeared in beijing and got on a flight to the united states. this is what joe biden had to say. >> i offered him a ride home. but he got a direct flight to san francisco, his home. i don't blame him, i'd be on that flight too. >> also saying hereleased, got word on another u.s. citizen they were asking to be released. you know, that very public apology is often the way that they actually pave the way for citizens being released. not so in the case of kenneth bay. we will see what happens. good news today in san francisco for the newman family. >> good news indeed. we're glad he's home. did he actually say he wanted a cheeseburger and to see my wife? >> i think his wife came before t

to go into the country and to actually determine whether or not iran is serious. so that will be one of the big determinates about iran o's lev of seriousness in terms of going forward with this deal. president obama also pointing to the fact that of $100 billion worth of sanctions, they are easing about $7 billion of those sanctions, leaving in the strong and sort of core parts of the sanctions program. of course, that, not enough to convince skeptics, israelis, a majority of them say this deal is not a good enough deal. prime minister benjamin netanyahu also saying that this deal isn't strong enough, doesn't do enough to curb iran's nuclear program. he is going to speak at the sabon center tomorrow, by the way, craig. we'll likely get a very different take on this deal that's come together from him. but i think that president obama's goal today was to speak to israelis and certainly to some of the skeptics here within the united states. a lot of them in congress who have said the deal doesn't go far enough. >> nbc's kristen welker at the white house, we're going to come back to you
